Verbs and metaphors make for INTERESTING, LIVELY writing.
Let's experiment with them by changing the following sentences, eliminating the "Be" verbs and using, instead, ACTION verbs:
1) I am 20 and I will be graduating from UIC this spring.
2) My friend is tall, and is a great volleyball player.
3) Running is my favorite sport and I have been doing it since I was 9 years old.
Next, let's explore the world of rich imagery and description, where writers work to make a subject more known and more exciting -- the world of Metaphor.
Following our class discussion of metaphor, offer an original example of an EXPLICIT, IMPLICIT, and EMBEDDED metaphor for each of the following subjects:
1) Someone's face
2) The sound of a water-sprinkler
3) The diligent work of an ant
